We are pleased to announce the winners of the Symphony of the Hawaiian Birds Art Contest. The theme of the contest, “Mālama Hawaiian Forest Birds!” sought to encourage students to learn about the unique Hawaiian forest birds and discover what they could do to protect many of these endangered species. We received over 130 excellent entries from students between 4th-12th grades. Unfortunately, this meant that a large number of outstanding entries could not be awarded. The contest was judged by local artists and animator Laura Margulies.
This contest was conducted as part of the larger Symphony of the Hawaiian Birds project, which culminated with over five thousand students attending an orchestral performance by the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra on Oct. 31, Nov. 1, and Nov. 14, 2018. Many student works were on display at the concert on a slideshow before the concert as well during the final musical work, both of which can be seen on the following link:
Congratulations to everyone who entered!
